Finding Your Money Machine
By Bill Reid
I bet you are no different than
everyone else I talk with about The Money Machine. You
hear a lot about them on TV Informercials late at night, you
see the pictures of them on the Internet, but have you ever
actually seen one? If you are like many out there
surfing the 'net looking for something, anything, that will make your life
easier, and perhaps give you more freedoms, like financial
freedom and time freedom, which will allow you to do whatever
you would like to do with your life, and you haven't been able
to quite nail this so called "Money Machine" down, then you
have come to the right place. Get ready for some
"straight shooting", no "BS" answers that will cut to the
chase and set you on your way with a clear understanding
of the answers to the two questions we have posed in the
preceding sub-title. Let's address those now.
Just What is a Money
Machine?
This is probably the
easiest of the two questions and can quickly be dispensed
with. If you ever go through a day without
seeing a Money Machine of some kind I will be
totally surprised. They are all around you. Every
where you look there is one of some kind in just about
evey location in every town or city, large and small, all
over the country. We see them, yet we don't recognize
them as "money machines". We see them as businesses. These businesses are "someone's" money
machine. They might have created it
from "scratch" with an idea for a new service, a new
product, but it doesn't have to be something new. It can
be anything, that when operated properly provides a service, a
product or otherwise fills a need for a customer who percieves
that he or she needs said service or product. By
providing what the customer needs or demands, the operator of
the business (money machine) generates
income.
General Motors Corporation,
Lockheed-Martin, Boeing, and Citicorp are a few examples
of BIG money machines, and the local restaurant,
barbershop, auto parts store or what ever else you can
name is one too, just smaller. You go there and put
money into these machines don't you? And don't you
usually receive something for your money? A product or
service? Sure you do.
So really, it's your
mindset that determines whether you can recognize a money
machine. When you recognize the fact that money machines
generate income ONLY when they fill a need, then you are right
on target, and, I think, ready for the answer to the second
question, which is:
Where will you find a
Money Machine?
Get ready, this answer is
coming fast, but it may take a while to explain it well enough
for you to understand it. Here it is.
A Money Machine will
become "visable" to you at the exact point in your
life where you find that you know exactly what you are capable
of doing to provide a valuable service or product to a
consumer or customer, have identified and acquired all the
tools, resources and supplies you need to operate your
"Money Machine" for the benefit of your customers,
created a plan of operation, and made a firm commitment
to execute that plan.
Now, I know that's a mouth
full, but it is the truth... Read it over again, and then
let's break it down, but before we do, I want you to get a
word in your mind, plant it there, and keep it watered well,
then watch it grow as your focus gets sharper.... The word is
CLARITY. That's right. Clarity. Think about
it, when you have a CLEAR vision of some of the necessities of
putting together a successful Money Machine it will become a
reality, if not a future reality, very quickly.
Here's the
breakdown
First, "when you know
exactly what you are capable of doing". What are your strengths and
weaknesses? Have you taken an honest accessment of your
skills and abilities? This is very important. You
have to have a very CLEAR understanding of who, what and where
you are in relation to your goals and aspirations.
Second, "have identified and acquired
all the tools, resources and supplies you need"....This means
YOU personally. When I say tools, I don't mean hammers
and saws, though if you were going to be a carpenter these
would probably come in handy. What I am referring
to is the soft skills, personality, appearance (if you will be
out front), verbal communication, sales ability, management
skills, financial strength and so on, that are required for
qualification in your pursuit. It does not mean that you
have to be all and do all. It just means that you have
to be able to recognize and provide for the expertise that
will be required for success, even if you decide it's better
for you to pay someone else to do some of the things that you
don't have the inclination or ability to do.
Third, "to operate your "Money Machine"
for the benefit of your customers". Stop and think
for just a moment. What is the focus of your
mindset? Are you worried about your financial situation,
or some other personal issue that you believe a successful
business
will fix? If you are focused on what you will
"get" if your "Money Machine" is successful, then you are
loosing the battle before it even begins. You have to
focus on providing a product for other people that will solve
THEIR problems, not yours. Your potential customers
don't care whether you are able to make your house payment if
they buy your product. They just want to know that it
will help them with their problem. It's been said many
times, and I am not sure who should be attributed credit for
this statement, but "If you help enough other people to get
what they want, then you will get everything in life that you
want".
Forth, "created a plan of operation"
means exactly what it says. You have to have a
REAL PLAN, that you understand, is practical, viable, and
you have to be able to focus on, and articulate, if
only in your own mind, this "plan", over and over and over,
until it either becomes a part of you, or you become a
part of it. You don't need to spend weeks or
months writing out the plan in great detail, but if that will
help you gain the CLARITY of vision you need to understand how
your plan will work, it's ok. But most of us are fully
capable of just creating an outline of our plan, and then
"filling in the blanks" as we move forward. The most
important part of ANY PLAN is the part known as the START. No
great work is accomplished without first starting, so once you
know what you want, are focused on the necessary things that
need to be accomplished, then start, and move forward with
passion while the fires that created your dream are fresh and
hot.
Fifth, when you have all your "ducks"
lined up, then you have to "make a firm commitment to execute
the plan". You
should, however, understand that NO PLAN is perfect, and that
you will have made some miscalculations, in spite of your best
effort, and hard times will come. The plan will test
you. The world will test you. Your own family and
friends will test you, and your JOB NUMBER ONE is to not give
in to the temptations to quit, because it will be tough.
Rest assured though, if you did the preparations, and
made SURE that you were SURE before you started,
then you will succeed. Every time someone questions your
motive, faith or any other facet of your "Money Machine", you
just simply, and silently, recommit to it's fruition.
